VECTRAN™

High-strength fiber with low moisture retention and excellent dimensional stability
General Name
Liquid crystal polymer fiber

VECTRAN™ is a liquid crystal polymer fiber that Kuraray began industrial production of for the first time in the world in 1990.

Its greatest feature is that it is difficult to break even when pulled (high strength) because it is made from liquid crystal polymers, which have extremely strong bonds between molecules.
In addition, it is "anti water-absorbent" (low moisture absorption), "elongation-resistant" (dimensional stability), and "abrasion-resistant" (wear resistance), contributing to the development of diverse industries in various parts of the world.

Applications include ropes, various tension members, safety and protective materials, aerospace, fishing nets, sporting goods, and composite materials.
It was also used in the airbags for NASA's Mars rover landing vehicle and the airship used in Japan's "Stratospheric Platform Concept".
