As a comprehensive manufacturer of activated carbon, mainly granular activated carbon, we meet the needs of various fields ranging from daily commodities to industrial applications.
In terms of production systems, we have a plant in Cebu, Philippines, and also produce highly processed products at our Tsurumi Plant in Okayama Prefecture.
In addition, the laboratory adjacent to the plant is equipped with the latest equipment to explore the still remaining potential of activated carbon and pursue new technologies.
Thus, the activated carbon business, which integrates research and production, is the starting point of Kuraray's carbon materials business. Even activated carbon, which at first glance appears to be the same, has a variety of structures when observed with electron microscopes and surface area measurement devices. Activated carbon has nano-level pores, and by controlling the diameter and capacity of these pores, the function of activated carbon can be enhanced.
Kuraray has proprietary technologies and extensive experience in manufacturing activated carbon with enhanced functionality required by controlling pore diameter and capacity according to the application.

Activated carbon for liquid and water phase
We have extensive experience in water purification (water supply, beverage and fisheries industries, water purification, ultrapure water), wastewater treatment (sewage treatment, industrial wastewater), decolorization and refining (sugar and amino acid industries), brewing, and precious metal recovery.
The high hardness of the material reduces the generation of fine particles during use.
Activated carbon for gas and vapor phase
Activated carbon with adsorption and desorption properties can be selected according to the type of gas, such as air purification (air conditioners, gas masks, ozone decomposition), deodorization (sewage and human waste treatment, exhaust gas, refrigerator deodorizers), gas separation, and exhaust gas treatment.

Regenerated charcoal
For effective use of resources and environmental protection, activated carbon adsorbents whose adsorption performance has declined are treated at high temperatures and regenerated.
In order to perform regeneration, it is important to conduct a preliminary investigation of the type of adsorbent, the degree of adsorption load, and the degree of difficulty of regeneration, and to set regeneration conditions under which the performance of the activated carbon is fully restored.
